will be presented to
GARMIN - AVIATION DIVISION
June 16, 2023
Garmin’s Aviation Division will be honored with the prestigious Cabot Award
in recognition of its truly unique and remarkable safety innovations in
aircraft avionics.
Garmin is dedicated to the passionate pursuit of active, safety-enhancing
technologies that make flying easier and provide advanced capabilities
designed to help make flying safer. It’s a vision that grows directly from
Garmin’s legacy of innovation and leadership in aviation.

Nearly 30 years ago, Garmin reached a milestone when they introduced the
first GPS product certified by the Federal Aviation Administration. They
followed this with the GNS 430. The first GPS navigator with a color moving
map, COM, VOR, LOC, and glideslope capability. This became general
aviation’s single most popular certified GPS to date.

Garmin has most recently developed Autoland, which is the first certified autonomous system that can activate in an emergency to land an aircraft without human intervention. This is a remarkable technical achievement. Through Garmin Aviation’s many innovations they have made aviation much safer throughout the world.

The Cabot Award, named to commemorate Dr. Godfrey L. Cabot (now deceased), is presented annually by ACONE to an individual, or team who has made unique and unparalleled contributions to encourage and advance aviation and space flight.

Previous recipients include Igor Sikorsky, Gen. Curtis LeMay, Gen. James Doolittle, Space Ship One Team, Col. Eileen Collins, Harrison Ford, NASA Mars Helicopter Ingenuity Team, astronauts and many notable others.

The Aero Club of New England (ACONE), the first aero club in the Americas, was organized in Boston on January 20, 1902 nearly two full years prior to the first flight of the Wright brothers on December 17, 1903 at Kill Devil Hill, North Carolina.
